“Since the dawn of time, humans have tamed fire.
I descend from human beings who painted caves and forged nails.
I have inherited daily gestures, rhythms, and rituals.
I carry within me ancestors and an infinite tree of unknown genes.
Blacksmithing has just been added to the intangible cultural heritage of Vaud, my grandmother has just passed away, I have no children.”
Bertille Laguet
“We look back through our mothers if we are women,” a quote from a lecture by Virginia Woolf, encourages women to write about their lives, their friendships, and their mothers, to make them visible and inspire future generations.
For her second solo exhibition, Bertille Laguet references the British author and intertwines gestural heritage with everyday feminine experiences to perpetuate the connection to the Living.
